Lovely Mickey

Mickey Mouse Plant fruit's red sepals (not its flower as commonly mistaken) and mature seeds that look like eyes - all these explain why it is named Mickey Mouse. Its seeds if not yet mature are green.
Here's Mickey Mouse's flower. Do you notice the yellow green sepals just below the yellow petals? They will soon turn into red as shown in the photo above and below. This garden shrub grows about 9 feet tall. It is known to have originated from South Africa.

Three-eyed Mickey

All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
    All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens...
God made their glowing colors...

@e-Mom, I agree. All things are bright and beautiful on their own.
@Marice, actually, I learned its name only lately when I discovered this plant has a name stuck with it at the park for researchers to see.

@Dorothy, I never realized it looks like a bug until you and Dinah said so. Thanks for your visit.

I can see why it's called Mickey Mouse! Never heard of the plant. It does have a prettier flower than its fruit. Thanks introducing us.

nice A said...

@Leora, thanks for liking its flower more than its fruit. For me while looking at the real plant, I am more fascinated with the fruit.

Beautiful blooms. Never heard of a Mickey Mouse plant.
That's amazing that it grows to nine feet.

@Patti, actually I learned its name only lately, too. Thanks to blogging I've become more conscious of spotting anything interesting around. I've seen this plant many times before but never noticed its beauty that lies on its tiny but intricate flowers and fruits.
Thanks for stopping by:)
